Reading and sharing
Read it, print it, send it to someone, quote a paragraph with a link back. Do not republish whole articles elsewhere, pass them off as your own, or feed the archive into a product as though you wrote it.
Ownership
The writing belongs to Priya Raghunathan and to Decorating Our Space. Photographs are licensed from stock libraries. Brand and product names appear only to describe things and belong to their owners.
No warranty
This is one person’s experience in the rooms she has rented, not professional advice. Buildings differ in wiring, plaster, ventilation, water and light, and outcomes differ with them. Test any paint, finish or cleaner on a hidden patch first, read what is on the label, never mix cleaning products, and stop when something is going badly.
Measurements and weights
Dimensions and clearances given here are a starting point for your own tape measure, not a specification. Before drilling, check what is inside the wall. Before hanging anything heavy, check the weight rating of the fixing against the actual weight of the object and the kind of wall you are fixing into. A rating printed on a packet assumes a wall in good condition, which yours may not be.
Renting in particular
Articles about rented homes describe what was allowed under my lease. Leases differ. Before drilling, adhering, painting or removing anything that is not yours, read your own agreement and ask your landlord. I am not responsible for your deposit.
Limits
So far as the law allows, Decorating Our Space is not liable for loss, damage or injury arising from acting on something read here. Work involving gas, electrical panels, or structure belongs to a licensed professional.
